Door Handles
The second half of the 20th Century saw the decline unfortunately of ironmongers. Even though every town in Britain used to have at least one, their fate has mirrored that of many traditional trades. The number of ironmongers has fallen immensily.Mainly due to the invention of DIY superstores that offer a complete range of ironmongery and associated products at very competitive prices all under one roof. More recently there has been an arrival of mail order catalogues and internet suppliers with extensive stock too. In recent decades there has been a simultaneous revival in the fortunes of old-style hand- ironmongery, with the interest in the restoration of period homes leading to demand for items such as traditional Door Handles, door knobs, door knockers, letter plates, locks, hinges, cabinet fittings- to mention a few. There has even been more use of `blacksmith nails` ?they have so much more character than the modern equivalent.Recently there has been a greater appreciation of designs that have stood the test of time in he past .For instance iron Door Handles will withstand decades of use and still look great if kept in place.
